Our story | KAYMA
What 'Kayma' Means
In Arabic, a kayma is a nomadic dwelling — a place that feels like home wherever it's set up. We're Wafa and Mounir Bahloul, and that's exactly what we set out to build.
Three Ingredients: Food, Story, Laughs
We grew up in big Algerian families where every meal was a gathering. Wafa cooked with her mother at weddings; Mounir called home for the recipes he missed. We kept grandma's recipes alive and wanted to share them with everyone.
From La Cocina to North Beach
In 2018 we joined La Cocina, San Francisco's food incubator, and took the leap. Today KAYMA is the Bay Area's first Algerian eatery, on Mason Street in North Beach.
